SCOPE OF WORK:
A Lead Database Administrator is being sought to carry out operational activities, including monitoring and administering the stated infrastructure components and services in response to requests from authorized stakeholders and approved projects and plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under this engagement, the Lead Database Administrator will be required to conduct the following tasks as they relate to IBM’s Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL:
- Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all services and verifying the completion of scheduled tasks.
- Provisions and configures database services in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Provides technical input and guidance relevant to databases to project/maintenance teams.
- Installs and configures software, tools, or updates on a supported environment
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
- Applies upgrades regularly and upgrades administrative tools and utilities.
- Performs ongoing performance tuning, upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
- Contributes to and maintains system standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and, where possible, automated approaches for database administration tasks.
- Resolves all incidents and requests assigned within the specifications of defined SLAs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution
- Industry-recognized certification in at least one of the following RDBMS:
- MS SQL Server
- IBM Informix
- PostgreSQL
- MySQL
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the administration and management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux/Windows-based servers, including Shell/PowerShell scripting.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in working in a virtualized environment using VMware vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Nutanix Acropolis hypervisors.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience managing enterprise database infrastructure implementations using MS SQL, IBM Informix, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
DESIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Good Communication Skills.
- Ability to work as a team lead.
- Experience with database design, operations and administration
- Experience with current Internet Technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS,TLS, etc)
- Experience with High-Availability design and implementation (failover systems and data replication).
- Experience with automation/configuration management using Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.
- Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage technologies.
- Knowledge of DevOps methods and CI/CD automation practices.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, LXC, etc.)
- Knowledge of system and data migration practices and technologies
The salary is J$6.49 million for the period attached to this position.
