Data Protection Bill for Parliament soon – Fayval Williams
Science, Energy and Technology Minister, Fayval Williams, says the Data Protection Bill, now before a Joint Select Committee of Parliament, is expected to go before the House shortly.
Williams, who was speaking at the eGov Jamaica Limited (eGovJa) ‘Exec Connect’ networking event at Hope Gardens on Thursday (January 23), said the legislation, when enacted, will provide citizens with the requisite safeguards to control their personal information.
“We will have the right to ask any institution that collects data about us to show us the data, and they will be obligated to show us. In that new environment, you will have rights about your personal data. You will hear more about that when we bring it to Parliament, and that is very close,” she noted.
